CULT AWARENESS NETWORK

Advice from a person who has had to deal directly with .anti-cult. media articles:

As part of their campaign to destroy a particular religious group or religious freedom in general, many deprogrammers do media interviews and represent themselves as .watchdogs. of new religious movements. Unfortunately, this frequently leads to reporters quoting deprogrammers, allowing them to give their one sided views without letting the reader know who these people really are or what they have done.

If you know of a deprogrammer that is quoted in news stories, here.s what you can do.  Write a letter to the editor of the paper or TV show to let them know the background of the deprogrammer.  Many times this includes criminal activity.  You can include the information on this site for the deprogrammers listed here.  Also, ask the editor to either disqualify the deprogrammer as a future source of information, or adequately inform the reader or viewer of the deprogrammers background.

Most media outlets are governed by strong ethics and will agree not to use known liars or criminals as expert sources, or at least will not use them without highlighting those facts.
